Children’s art gallery and competitions now closed

The European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect on 25 May 2018. The GDPR contains precise rules about the consents required for use of a child’s personal data (eg his/her name). In particular, it makes it necessary to have explicit and verifiable parental consent for children to participate in an Information Society Service (ISS), like the Look and Learn children’s art gallery.

In the past we relied on teachers to act in children’s best interests, and we have assumed that children over the age of 12 were capable of understanding the risks of having their name associated with their artworks online. Under the GDPR the administrative burden on us and teachers would be much heavier.

It is therefore with the greatest regret that we decided to close the Look and Learn children’s art gallery on 24 May 2018.

Thank you to all the thousands of parents, teachers and children who have helped make the Look and Learn children’s art gallery such an inspiration – and best wishes to you all for the future!

Best wishes,

Laurence Heyworth
